Fully traceable coffee from sustainably producing farmers

One harvest. Two processes. Unprecedented complexity. That is the single origin Casa Padilla specialty coffee.

What happens when you process one harvest in two different ways and then bring them together again? For Casa Padilla, the exact same Costa Rican Geisha 100% arabica coffee beans are partially processed as 'Honey' and partially as 'Natural'. To preserve the characteristics of these two methods, a light roast was chosen. You will taste the fruitiness of black berries and raspberry, with a solid chocolate base.

This single origin specialty coffee is a tribute. The coffee is named after Miguel Padilla, a producer from the Tarrazú/Dota region in Costa Rica with whom we have been working together for years. Miguel runs his own processing station here. Here he perfects his harvest and takes the local farming community to a higher level. Casa Padilla is proof of his craftsmanship, direct trade, and a long-standing friendship.

FAQ

How does this Costa Rican Geisha get its layered complexity?

The secret lies in the unique processing of the harvest. For this coffee, we use a single exceptional batch of Geisha beans, but split it after picking. One part undergoes a 'Honey' process, the other a 'Natural' process. By bringing these two together again after processing, we combine the specific characteristics of both techniques in a single-origin coffee.

What specific tasting notes do you experience in this specialty coffee?

The light roast and double processing bring out a very vibrant and bright profile. The 'Natural' method provides pronounced, fruity notes of raspberry and blackcurrant. The 'Honey' processed beans complement this perfectly with a solid, sweet chocolate base. This creates a complex flavor experience that you rarely find in a single origin.

Why do you support a fair coffee chain with Casa Padilla?

This coffee is the direct result of our long-standing collaboration with producer Miguel Padilla from the Tarrazú/Dota region. Because we work through direct trade and Miguel manages his own processing station, traceability is 100%. This ensures that the proceeds flow directly back to the local community and that he receives the fair price his craftsmanship deserves.

What is the ideal brewing method for this light roast?

Because we want to preserve the delicate fruity notes of the Geisha bean, this coffee is intentionally light roasted. This allows the Casa Padilla to perform optimally as a filter coffee. Manual brewing methods such as the V60, Chemex, or AeroPress perfectly highlight its clarity. For use in an espresso machine, this bean is only recommended if you are specifically looking for a very modern, fresh espresso with high acidity.

- Double espresso: 19 grams of finely ground coffee should yield 40 ml of liquid in 28 seconds.
- V60: Use 22 grams of coarsely ground coffee and 350 ml of water, with a total brew time of 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
