De Roots van jouw Koffie
The Bonilla Martínez family
Meet the farming family of Sol Naciente plantation in the Dota Valley. Thirty years ago, the family transformed this former cattle-farming area into the current regenerative farm. With their own micro-mill, they manage the entire process, from soil science to the export-ready quality of specialty coffee.
Eerlijke Betaling
125% above the average (ICAFE benchmark 2025: €5.11/kg) and 145% above an indicative living wage (Fairtrade reference: €4.70/kg).
TUKA decouples the farmer's income from speculation on the world market. This provides the farmer with the financial stability to no longer have to live from harvest to harvest.
Regio & Terroir
Located at an altitude of 1,600 - 1,800 meters in the Talamanca Mountains. The coffee owes its character to the volcanic soil of the Talamanca mountain range. This mineral-rich soil forms the basis for its sparkling acidity and deep sweetness. The farmer experiments here by planting banana, mango, and lemon trees directly next to the coffee plants for natural shade.
Natuurbehoud
Sol Naciente reuses 100% of their waste streams. The farm operates on a closed-loop system where all residual material from coffee processing is directly returned to the soil for optimal fertility.
